What College Major Will Let Me Deal In Antiquities?
May 17, 2008 by Armand | Posted in Higher Education (University +)
I am frustrating to determine a major that would let me deal in antiquities and other kinds of objects from the past. With this kind of major, I would like to sell artifacts or verify the history of them.
Any suggestions?
Sounds like you should look into a inch by inch in archeology or anthropology. The courses for both sort of overlap. I can definitely tell you from my own experience that many colleges offer summer trips to students for esteem. My school had taken students on a few archeological digs. Even the classics society had taken students to Italy to dig for roman coins.
A insignificant in art history would also be good to give you some exposure and background.

I don't recollect much about this. Therefore, I recommend calling someone who already deals in these objects and asking them about their educational/career path. Most professionals are happy to talk with under age people interested in their careers.
Good Luck!

First, you call for to choose the area of antiquities you want to deal in, then take that area studies. For example "Medieval and Renaissance studies" for antiquities from that arena. In addition, you should probably minor in archeology and a language related to your area.
You should then move in to museum studies with a specialty in antiquities collections of your era.

What are US laws regarding antiquities found on private property?
Aug 01, 2007 by Luey | Posted in Law & Ethics
If you dig up antiquities on clandestine property (that you own) in the United States, who owns them? In Italy, the state does automatically. That seems wholly unfair to landowners. I'm intellectual about ownership of ancient Indian artifacts, burial grounds, battlefield artifacts, and fossils. I know the federal ministry owns that which is found on public lands, which makes sense. I'm talking about private lands.
don't go digging in Italy.
the UK have correspond to and strange laws.
the only restriction might be if someone else had mineral rights on your property...lawyer time.
good luck.

I'm at the creation of training to be a lawyer and I'm really interested in this area of law but have no idea what lawyers who deal with this field are called. Any ideas?
There are attorneys that do "art law" on it or not. But government attorneys for the respective involved countries also have a hand in it.

How can I go about finding an appraiser for a collection of antiques and antiquities?
Oct 19, 2007 by SPQRCLAUDIUS | Posted in Other - Visual Arts
I paucity someone who is reliable and inexpensive in the San Francisco area who knows his stuff about ancient to 19th century coins, sculptures, paintings, etc. Is there an individual ratings service or website?
I am particularly interested in coin experts and Japanese ceramics experts.
This is knotty & scarey. For starters, deal only with people who bill by the hour without getting themselves a % interest.
Ask for referrals from local museums & academic institutions.
Bank conglomerate departments manage estates involving every kind of collectible - if you can get an officer to speak to you they also know how to put hard prices on things lickety-split.
