What College Major Will Let Me Deal In Antiquities?
I am vexing to determine a major that would let me deal in antiquities and other kinds of objects from the past. With this kind of major, I would like to sell artifacts or adjudge the history of them.
Any suggestions?
Sounds like you should look into a quite b substantially in archeology or anthropology. The courses for both sort of overlap. I can definitely tell you from my own experience that many colleges offer summer trips to students for solvency. My school had taken students on a few archeological digs. Even the classics society had taken students to Italy to dig for roman coins.
A obscure in art history would also be good to give you some exposure and background.
Good Luck!
You should then move in to museum studies with a specialty in antiquities collections of your era.
A lesser in art history would also be good to give you some exposure and background.
What are US laws regarding antiquities found on private property?
If you dig up antiquities on uncommunicative property (that you own) in the United States, who owns them? In Italy, the state does automatically. That seems wholly unfair to landowners. I'm rational about ownership of ancient Indian artifacts, burial grounds, battlefield artifacts, and fossils. I know the federal command owns that which is found on public lands, which makes sense. I'm talking about private lands.
don't go digging in Italy.
the UK have be like and strange laws.
the only restriction might be if someone else had mineral rights on your property...lawyer time.
good luck.
What kind of lawyers deal with the trafficking of illegal antiquities?
I'm at the commencement of training to be a lawyer and I'm really interested in this area of law but have no idea what lawyers who deal with this field are called. Any ideas?
There are attorneys that do "art law" on it or not. But government attorneys for the respective involved countries also have a hand in it.
How can I go about finding an appraiser for a collection of antiques and antiquities?
I destitution someone who is reliable and inexpensive in the San Francisco area who knows his stuff about ancient to 19th century coins, sculptures, paintings, etc. Is there an external ratings service or website?
I am particularly interested in coin experts and Japanese ceramics experts.
This is slippery & scarey. For starters, deal only with people who bill by the hour without getting themselves a % interest.
Ask for referrals from local museums & academic institutions.
Bank make departments manage estates involving every kind of collectible - if you can get an officer to speak to you they also know how to put hard prices on things despatch.
