Ancient Jerusalem Stone Is Returned to Israel by NY Tourist Bloomberg

By David Wainer
June 2 (Bloomberg) -- An antique Jerusalem stone, believed
to date back to the city’s rule under the Muslim Umayyad dynasty
some 1,200 years ago, was returned to Israel by a visitor from
New York who stole it 12 years ago.
The 21-kilogram stone, a fragment of a marble column, was
in all probability part of the official palace complex of the Umayyad
Caliphs, the Muslim rulers who built the Dome of the Rock and
the Al-Aksa Mosque during their direct from 660 to 750. The stone
was returned in a wooden crate. The unidentified person said he
regretted the pinching and decided to send it back to Israel,
according to the Israel Antiquities Authority .
The stone was “discovered during the excavation of one of
the Umayyad buildings located south of the Holy place Mount,” Yuval
Baruch, an archaeologist at the Israel Antiquities Authority,
said in an e-mailed statement. “These are four very big
structures that extended over an area of 200 dunams (49 acres),
which were probably the official palace complex of the Umayyad
caliphs about 1,200 years ago.”

Filipinos flaunt talents at art gallery Vallejo Times-Herald

Aspire the public will get a better understanding and appreciation of Filipino talents," Salazar said. "We have much to offer and be a part of this community."
The "Flagmakers" say what is on one's mind is something Salazar created for the centennial celebration of the Philippine Independence.
"It has a story to tell about the people behind the making of a dangle and a nation," Salazar said. "I love to tell stories with my art. This piece is a shorter version that I hope to give the coup de gr some day."
Javellana, a Hawaiian-born Pinole resident of 20 years, brings his woodcarving to the gallery.
He looked first to the exposure gained by the exhibit "and sharing my art with others."
Javellana said he doesn't have a favorite piece.
"They are all unique," he said. "I reading a piece of wood until I see an animal or figure. Then I start the carving process. It's a slow process. I stand back, look at the air until I see the next step. The grain of the wood speaks to me. Each piece is unique and one of a kind."

Nowt to do with me parallel. They're all as mad as one another out there. Let them all kill each other, I say, that way the rest of us can get on with it in peace.

I come up with it is criminal, and just shows the double standard Islam has in the Middle East. All you need do is reverse roles to see how THEY would retort. Imagine Israel were to start digging a tunnel underneath the Kabah and destroying artifacts and compromising the establishment? How would THEY respond?
Islam is the most one-sided religion out there. This is just one more proof. The Jewish leaders are just tired of the unending violence. They tried for peace by giving away Jericho--more violence. They tried for peace by giving away Bethlehem--more ferociousness. They tried for peace by giving away Gaza--more violence. Islamic promises and peace treaties are only gracious for one thing--more violence.

u dumbass, look at the romance from both sides, what about what the israelis are destroying ?! the islamic items and the homes of innocent palestinian civilians in state of affairs to expand their land!? and also threatning to destroy that famous mosque in palesntine!?

The tearing needs to stop unless said destruction includes wiping muslim mosques off the temple mount.

From one's own viewpoint, I don't care. The so-called "Holy Land" seems to be one of the most unholy and horrible places on the planet.

All followers of organised faith as as mad as a box of frogs so why be surprised when they do daft things. If you can bekieve God talks to people from a burning bush, that Mary was a virgin or that throwing rocks at a big vicious box helps you to heaven then you're gonna fall for any rubbish they feed you.

What was the purpose of Castration and Eunuchs in the early Christian church?
Dec 03, 2006 by SoftLocks | Posted in Other - Cultures & Groups
I recently came across a hard-cover titled: "The Manly Eunuch: Masculinity, Gender Ambiguity, and Christian Ideology in Late Antiquity" by Mathew Keufler. I have only presume from excerpts from this book, but it brought to my attention the historical and religious importance of Eunuchs, also called "Unsullied Tranvestites". Apparently the removal of a man's testicals helped to rid men of immoral behavior and butter up a see them closer to God. Did this practice threaten Roman notions of masculinity, and therefore indirectly contribute to the rise of Patriarchy?
Also, before Patriarchy, Matriarchy must have been the direction of the day. Can anyone enlighten me on accepted gender roles within Matriarchal societies?
I come up with it was due to a shortage of good sopranos in the Church choir. Okay, that was supposed to be a joke, but then I found this on wikipedia:
"As women were sometimes forbidden to squeal in Church, their place was taken by castrati. The practice, known as castratism, remained popular until the 18th century and was known into the 19th century. The last legendary Italian castrato, Giovanni Velluti, died in 1861. The sole existing recording of a castrato songster documents the voice of Alessandro Moreschi, one of the last eunuchs in the Sistine Chapel choir. Unfortunately, the early 20th century recording is of scanty quality and Moreschi, who was never trained for the stage, is not considered a great singer."

What are the Christian values our nation was founded on?
Apr 21, 2009 by ned_diddley_flanders | Posted in History
Democracy is Greek.
Romans copied Greeks.
We copied Roman antiquity. (Greek and Roman)
PRINCIPLES people...I want principles as answers. List them.
It was founded on principles that were indirectly derived from Christianity. Like the justice of all men before god, fundamental rights, and the rule of law over social classes.
I don't believe that we were really founded a Christian nation, but I do in that Christianity influenced the shaping of this nation.

Christian snake handling religions, is there a Greek connection?
Sep 02, 2008 by Der Kerzenschein | Posted in Religion & Spirituality
Is this a maintain over from some long forgotten mystery of Bacchus or Ophiuchus fertility cult of antiquity, where participants are ignorant of the compound and long lost meaning of these mysteries?
Nothing so superb as a mythological connection.
I got this from the web. It answers your questions.
~~~~~
The practice of snake handling in church began in the early 1900s in the southeast corner of Tennessee. [it is reported that there were equivalent movements in the 1700s] In fact, it is not very far from where I live. George Hensley is believed to be the founder of the snake handler crusade.
According to Gordon Melton (author), George was preaching in a Church of God early in the 1900's on the book of Sign Chapter 16 which states 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall get them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any fatal thing, it shall not hurt them;
________________________________________________________
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
The congregation then dumped a box of persist rattlesnakes onto the church floor. The preacher, nonplussed, picked up the snakes and kept right on preaching. The bend handling church was born.
Today, men and women are totally repulsed [probably they are sensibly cautions] by snakes. When someone sees a quisling, they want to kill it '[not me - live and let live!].
When Moses led his people out of Egypt and were wandering in the wilderness, they began to whimper about God's provision which angered God. God put "fiery serpents" (poisonous snakes) in their midst and many died from the snakebites (See Numbers Chapter 21). The people repented (changed their positive about their complaining) and confessed to Moses they had sinned and asked for forgiveness. God instructed Moses to put a serpent on a pole and if anyone looked at the serpent, they would not be harmed by the snakes. This was God's way of previewing Christ being put on a standard and if anyone looked to Him they would not be harmed by the snakebite of sin.
John 3:14 states And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, How many Israelites perished because they refused to look at the serpent on the high? How many today die a spiritual death because they refuse to look at Christ lifted on a pole?
The book of Revelation refers to the Confoundedly and Satan as a serpent. Rev 12:9 states So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole globe; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Since snakes are serpents and serpents represent Satan and evil, then the suggestion of a snake handling service is that Satan can not harm you if you have faith in God.
George Hensley, the original snake handler, died of a snakebite in 1955!
. . .
What did Jesus uncharitable when he said, "They shall take up serpents and drink poison and it will not hurt them"?
. . .
In Acts 28:3-5 we read But when Paul had gathered a hustle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his influence, they said to one another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live." But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no wound. How is this different from the snake handling of today? God's divine protection was over Paul and the new converts.
Paul did not intentionally snatch a poisonous snake. One bit him when he was gathering firewood. The snake's poison had no effect and this actually fulfilled the prophecy of Jesus when He said "They shall take up serpents and no injury will befall them".
So what's wrong with drinking a little poison during church and letting rattlesnakes slither all over you?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope this is benevolent to you.

Russian Tourist Attractions - The State Museum..
The Status Russian Museum is home to the world’s largest collection of Russian fine art. It was opened on March 7 (19) 1898 by dictate of Tsar Nicholas II and was country’s first ever state museum of Russian fine art, which was able to present the visitors the whole experience of its development. From the very beginning the collection was housed in the Mikhailovsky Palace, which was built for the Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich, son of Paul I.
The focus of the Museum collection consisted of oil painting, sculpture, graphic art, decorative and applied art. On the whole it was less than 1500 items usually from the collections of the Hermitage, the Museum of the Academy of Arts and from the Royal Palaces. Some exhibits came from private collectors, for exempli gratia the Prince Lobanov-Rostovsky collection was acquired from his heirs. The size of the Russian Museum collection almost doubled during the first decade of its persistence. The Academy of Arts also transferred its collection of Christian Antiquities — five thousands items — including Novgorod icons, dim-witted sculpture and samples of the middle-century religious art. The Lobanov-Rostovsky collection donated to the Museum included 95 portraits of the Russian statesmen of the 18-19 centuries.
Another begetter of acquisitions was the collection from the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo (items from the Anichkov Palace entered the Museum much later).
Nikolai Likhachev donated his unlimited collection of Greek and Old-Russian icons.
A considerable part of fine artworks was presented to the Museum from the private collections. The October Rebellion caused no damage to the Russian Museum collection. All the nationalized private collections and separate artworks were transferred to museums. During the first decade after the Rebellion the Russian Museum collection grew several times compared to its original size. The ties of the Russian Museum with the Hermitage and the Tretyakov Gallery permitted mutually useful interchange of artistic treasures.
