What is the minimum width for balusters in Fairfax County, VA?
I'm replacing wood with iron and I spot the iron balusters are thinner.
Most codes be short of pickets or balustrades to be 4" or less.
Stairwell balusters: Do you like oak or painted white?
I am completing a new about to sell. I am building the stairwell guard rail, which abuts the living area. The top and bottom rail will be natural stained oak. Should I cosmetics the balusters white or keep them natural finished oak? Thanks for your input.
In today's verifiable estate market natural oak has much more appeal and value than painted wood. To verify this for yourself, you can go in the new deveolpments in your area and see what they are doing by visiting their maquette homes. You will also have a lot of fun while doing it. I started doing this about 2 years ago when I was shopping for a home and it has almost become my hobby. Good Luck.
How much would you charge to replace railings and balusters on a pre-existing wood walkway?
The walkway is 36 feet eat one's heart out and has no landings. It is about 10-12 feet from the ground. We need to use presure treated wood.
not very much, induce it would be horribly done.
We are building a deck and I want to have removeable spindles/removable balusters in the rails.?
I conscious they exist, I've seen them. The spindles can be removed so you can stain the top/bottom rails then snap them back. Anyone recollect a source or a brand that has these. I think they are aluminum but look like steel or iron.
With all due consideration, I have to ask, WHY framing that has to be stained, then add metal balusters? That isn't as confusing as WHY not stain/finish the WOOD frame work first?
Beyond that I'd be snooping as to how they attach, code issues regarding rails depending on height off ground level that railings are dictated.
Then there is the outflow, if railing is required, about why you want to mix species anyway? Why not frame it in the same material, wood or metal?
