A question about what old barn windows are called.?

There is a precise name for the long row of windows that are above a barn door. Can anybody refresh our memory? They were/are more common on older barns.

Has anyone ever slept in a barn with animals?

Has anyone ever slept in a barn on straw with a few blankets? How was the sense? Was it dark? How did you keep warm? Did the smell of animals bother you? Were the barn doors closed while you slept?




Did the barn you slept in have windows or was it dark inside?

Did you renounce the barn door open? Or close all barn doors?

Sleeping in the barn can be celebrated if you're a little weird. They hay makes a great extra cover...so warm. Love the smells of the horses and their bantam noises as the move about during the night. Not dark cause one light is left on by the tack room. Yes, doors are closed at night most of the year but frank during the hottest part of summer.

What would the ideal horse barn have?

If you could build a 2 horse barn - no bigger - what would it have, what is leading to include and for upkeep ease. I would love tips to prevent common problems such as mud, chewed wood...etc...
Such as:

What would the floors look like?
Dampen supply
Doors
Windows
Tack room

2 stalls with a equipage. wood or dirt floors are the best
wood - good-you could sweep and wood is sturdy and you would not need to put new ground in, and you could paint it
-bad- rot and dis color more expensive, it could break
dirt-good- its better for horses feet, easer to uncontaminated, looks more natural
-bad- you need to re-fill every so often,dust(allergies),muddy,

for the water supply have an odimatic water filler, all the horses to my barn have it and its as a matter of fact nice.

doors would do better on sliding ones or just have no doors at all(to the barn) but for the horse, sliding ones or the ones that have two doors, one on top and one on the bottom so their heads can flake off out :)

windows have good and bad qualitys...- good- seeing out of, makes the barn look more classy
-bad- spider webs , more Windex

and a nail room would be good in cement or wood. because looks classy, and easer to clean. If you got windows then get one in the tack room so you could look out into the arena or where ever.

what should a 30 x 48 the length barn cost me to build in northern michigan. should include 12 x 16 garage door, 3 ft assistance door, 3 windows, poured floor. approximates are fine.

@ $25,000 Contracted out, Much cheaper doing it with some qualifed daily help.
