Fairmont Pittsburgh hotel design blends art and industry Pittsburgh Post Gazette

From the dock of the Golden Gate Bridge to the home of the Golden Triangle, a legendary luxury hotel brings its learning of comfort to the center of the city at 510 Market St.

Fairmont Pittsburgh hotel, which opened yesterday, is the newest among 60 Fairmont Hotels & Resorts worldwide. Like the others, it is "authentically townsman ... with a modern interpretation," says Tom Storey, president of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, headquartered in Toronto.

The soaring two-narrative lobby is filled with natural light and polished limestone and looks onto a small triangular park at the channel entrance to the hotel. Milk glass panels rise above the sleek reception desk, which faces southwest to the Buhl Edifice, an ornate jewel box visible through a wall of windows.

It lends its classic beauty as a counter to all the stone, blade and glass. On the east side is a linear raised stone fireplace surrounded by steel benches. To the back is Andys, described as "art meets manufacture in a sleek wine bar." It's named for Pittsburgh's two famous Andrews: Carnegie and Warhol.

Election Beat: History is Made in Lyndeborough, NH Scoop.co.nz

Any villager of the town can get an article on the town warrant by obtaining at least 25 signatures from registered voters. So this year, in my village we voted on Petition Article 22, which was to prohibit concealed vote counting by computers or otherwise and to guarantee that the voting system would be catholic for citizen oversight. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the article, with only a couple of folks voting "Nay". I think this is celebrated, actually. We are the first town in NH to pass such a law, and possibly the first town in the nation.

Where did the idea for Petition Article 22 common knowledge from? And isn't it a little like closing the barn door after the horse has taken off?

There's no such thing as closing this barn door too late. The horse may be direction around wild but the barn is still standing. And you know what, it's our barn. It does not belong to e-voting industrialists. It does not belong to computer scientists. It does not be a member of to election officials. It

I'm talking about the build most door in the back of the vehicle. You pull the handle on the left door after you open the right door. It can't be slim jimmed.

the linkage has fallen off the control.

Did you have a bosom buddy with a slim jim get your locked door open recently? He broke off a clip and the linkage fell off.

its split

the linkage has fallen off the direct.

The same sentiment happen to My Tahoe just this past weekend. 3/25/07 and well I am trying to figure out how to get it open to gett he pannel off to get the linkage back on? Any thoughts? I thanks you very much.

My gran used to say " You couldn`t hit a barn door if you were sitting on the handle ". what did she mean?

'You couldn't hit an elephants bum with a banjo' That's another saying signification your aim is not good

Steve Nash, Shaq, and LeBron James whine...(read more)?

This is absolutely outdated but I'll give it a go anyway...

In the beginning of the season the NBA used a composite leather ball (fake leather). It switched back and now it uses the leather ball, once again. The three biggest critics of the composite leather ball were LeBron James, Steve Nash, and Shaquille O'neal. Their convince for complaint: The fake leather balls HURT THEIR HANDS! So, Shaquille O'neal, who has played like 10 games the whole enliven and obviously doesn't go to practice alot (judging by the way he plays nowdays), is whining because his barn door expanse hands can't handle fake leather.

I don't get this. The NCAA has been using fake leather balls for ages and none of their players have reported grazed hands. Most tyro basketball leagues have done the same and no grazing of hands has been reported.

Does anyone else think that these claims are completely ludicrous?

Read the open letter PETA sent to NBA players, it was cheery.
I'm not a PETA activist but I think these whines that come from Nash, Shaq and LeBron are completely idiotic.

I dream up alot less of LeBron James, Nash, and Shaq now. Infact, I'm happy that the Suns got cheated out of the finals and that the Cavs are about to get swept. As for Shaq's available; self explanitory.
blibityblabity, that is a foolish assumption. I would rather die than:

-Have to be on the road 150+ days in the year, away from place, away from my true friends and family
-Have to take part in sternuous practices for several hours a day
-Have to have a curfew
-Be on a specific diet
-Have intelligence reporters and paparazzi follow me around 24/7
-Have gold diggers and money grabbing agents rip me off any chance they get
-Get criticized for everything that I do whether it's sufficient or bad
-Be in the center of attention for the rest of my life
-Have absolutely no privacy or personal time whatsoever, except for the measly 1 and half months that I get during the summer

So, no, I'm not the archetype that is jealous of the rich and famous. Infact, I feel sorry for them because of the fake lives they live and the fake people they have to allot with every day. And no matter how many millions they get for it, it doesn't matter because it's their lives that are being sold.
None of you read anything after the question chronicle.

The NCAA uses the same exact composite ball. Most of these players come out of the NCAA therefore they should be use to it already.

If you haven't figured out that the NBA is 95% adults who act like children then I theorize this would be shocking to you.

The NBA has become:
1) Drive inside, dunk, foul. Period.
2) Permanent 1 vs. 5 (i.e. no teamwork/passing)
3) Ghetto: neck/physiognomy tattoos, fist fights, drugs, arrests, etc.
4) Boring.

WASHINGTON—Organizers reported Sunday that the 44th Chalky House Carnival was a rousing success, raising a record $800,000,066,845 for the federal government—$800 billion of which came from a dunk tank featuring former shortcoming president Dick Cheney.

Cheney tells more than 200 million Americans to "baffle or get the hell out of [his] sight."
According to Secretary of the Treasury and carnival volunteer Timothy Geithner, the 5-foot-into tank has provided a much-needed boost to the nation's flagging economy.
"We expected a big circle out, but this is unbelievable," said Geithner, adding that it's tradition for the outgoing vice president to line the dunk tank. "More than half the country has already gone, and there's still about 20 million people stretching all the way to Maryland waiting for their unintentional to sink Cheney. We'll be leaving this booth open for as long as it takes for everyone to get a turn."
According to carnival sources, a visibly irritated Cheney, clad in sandals and a silver cotton robe, arrived at the one-day event shortly before 10 a.m. After removing his robe to reveal a black, 1940s-sort bathing suit, the vice president reportedly touched his hand to the water, muttered something to himself, and was then helped up the tank's ladder by several members of his Clandestinely Service detail.

"All right, you candy arms, let's go," Cheney shouted at the activity of people, which consisted of Americans, non-Americans, out-of-work autoworkers, teachers, luminaries from the science community, gays, lesbians, military personnel, members of Congress, children, and the absolute Arab-American population. "Hey [former British prime minister Tony] Blair. I see you back there. Think you'll be skilful to stop crying long enough to throw the ball?"
Added Cheney, "You bunch of pansies couldn't hit a barn door if you were sitting on the use."
Records show that the first dunk of the day came at the hands of Iraq War veteran Ben Hunter, whose throwing technique, Cheney again said, was reminiscent of his own grandmother's. After being goaded by the former vice president for several minutes, Hunter reportedly struck the tank's objective on his third turn, plunging Cheney into the pool below and eliciting wild cheers from the roughly 150 million people on will.

Is this for earnest? I have never heard of a vice President's dunking tank.

Barn Doors

Whether sitting in a cricket pitch of tall grasses or providing a bold statement for your guest house, there is nothing quite so American an icon as the barn. Purities of species and function, barns are often constructed from simple materials, giving them a character unlike any other structural style. In this article, we will take a look at the barn door, how it relates to your propel, and how these sliding and swinging doors can enhance your barn’s visual appeal.

What’s in a barn?

Barns are often constructed with heavy timbers or trusses, making for unconcealed floor plans and large rooms. Exposed beams and rusticated surfaces can add to the warmth and inviting character of the spaces within. Outside, barns may be capped with a gambrel or shed roof and can be sided with a variety of materials including habitual clapboards, cedar shingles, and vertical board and batten siding. Older structures may still have a hayloft or cantilevered crane. Another be common to the barn style is a cupola. Originally placed atop a roof to allow for ventilation, cupolas now r as architectural elements, adding visual interest to rooflines.

Door selection is important

Like other building types, a barn devotes a sizeable piece of its façade to its doors. Doors add architectural interest and scale to a building, and provide a dynamic way for the building to engage its site and viewers. When choosing a door to set aside for your barn, there are several things to consider:

Structure. Traditional barns are constructed of heavy timbers. Select a door that speaks the same phraseology. Diagonal bracing creates a visual sense of strength and support, while tongue-and-groove paneling echoes the comprehensibility of early American building. Hardware. Evoke the crafts of the past by sticking to hardware that looks offer distribute-forged. Heavy duty hinges and handles will add a period look to your building....
