“Baseball was my introduction to American sentience,” Fong said Tuesday in a telephone interview. “I’m an immigrant’s son; I didn’t on a talk more loudly English much until I began kindergarten.”

He grew up in Oakland, Calif., and when the Dodgers and the Giants relocated to Los Angeles and San Francisco in 1958, Fong could not gather what all the fuss was about.

“Everybody was raving about Duke Snider and Willie Mays ,” Fong said. “I raised my part one day in class and asked, ‘What’s baseball?’ ”

The teacher explained to Fong that if he wanted to agree American life, he needed to learn about baseball. “I did and I’ve been overcompensating ever since,” he said.

Today, Fong has a new passion: college basketball. Fong has discovered how a winsome basketball team can move a university into a national spotlight — for all of the right reasons.

Butler has become the inspirational physiognomy of March Madness. The team’s success has had instant impact. “In the last few days we’ve had unwed keeping the admission Web site up,” he said. “It crashed at least once.”

i have 2-1968 hank aaron cards and the brownish fringe is more solid looking than the 68 mays. the 68 mays' border is more sporatic in the reddish blots and more white in between....thanks

It is valued at a climactic of $80 --

Assuming, of course, that it's in reasonably good shape (only 1-2 corners bent -- no creases -- nothing written on it).

If you were a mature kid like I was -- you wrote 1B on the card, since Mays was no longer playing OF in 1970. That little correction has diminished the value of the union card to $8 !

No problem -- I would never sell the card. It's part of my childhood.
