Does anyone know what the value of old barn beams, floor boards and sleat is?

I dismantled a barn on my acreage that I have records indicating it was built 1888. I have eighteen barn beams that range in length from 10' to 18'. Also I have many 4 " thick lowest level boards 12 - 16 " wide and 10'- 18' long. Also the slate has been taken down carefully so not to break them. Does anyone recall a fair price range of what I can sell them for?

I've recently connected in a diversified sense; with two mills that specialize in specialty wood; one being reclaimed wood species.

The process for them is costly in some respects as they use remarkable methods for reclaiming/ drying/ trimming/ etc.

I truly have no clue as to value; but certainly Mills and reclaimation contractors; etc.; as I mentioned can very proper be found on the WWW.

I was born and raised on a farm; and I'd give a bunch to have a truckload of that Old; SILVERED planking today.

Where you find pricing; might not be a warrant of finding buyers however.

It's cold to say without actually seeing the lumber. This is some really fine wood though!! Do you know what kind of wood it is? Southern Yellow Pine?
You obviously have some lumber worth some $$. I would guestimate around $1000-2500 but that's a total guess.

PS: In relation to answer after mine. I have been buying rejects and retrofitting homes for 20 years and I have a pretty good idea what lumber is worth! And the age of the wood is very material. Why do you think they are spending $$$$ pulling old timber up from the Great Lakes? It's certainly not the kind of wood - the scrupulous same species can be found everywhere. It's the age. I have customers willing to pay top dollar for old heart of pine or other kinds of floors that are over 100 years old!

Dependably, the value of such wood is dependent upon what someone is willing to pay. You can look in most state trading post newspapers and folks are commonly selling wood from old barns or houses. Whether or not the lumber is sold depends on whether a shopper thinks the price is honest.
Aside from that, I doubt there's any sort of scale or pricing range that dictates what such wood is being sold for. It's not so much the age of the wood as it is the rate and type of wood that's being sold.

good luck

it is a sellers retail they want all the money that they can get with good cause to get the wood with the aging that most old barns have takes from 75 to 150 years.

How to install a heavyweight barn beam as a fireplace mantel?

I have received an old darbies hewn barn beam of white oak I want to attach to studded drywall above a gas fireplace. The beam is 10" x 6" x 6' and weighs in over-sufficiency of 135lbs.What would be a good way to anchor this to the wall with preferrably nothing showing? The weight, obviously concerns me. I plan on using a stone fa around the mantel once it is installed.

I simulate that you don't want corbels, so here is my trick. Use very large lag screws, at least 1/2 inch wide and 6" wish (At least). Mark the area where the mantel will be and drill a pilot hole in each stud in the center of your 6" seat. Screw in your lag screws about 3 1/2". Make corresponding marks in the back of the mantel and drill holes slight larger than the head of the screws. Dry fit to make sure that it will work. Then fill the holes with epoxy, smear epoxy on the lags and use construction adhesive on the back of the screen that will go against the drywall. Press it firmly against the wall and use 2X4s to brace it up until the epoxy sets. This holds well for wooden mantels and their heavier stone counterparts.

That looks like a canvas or dodge to me. Do talk to the fire inspector's office before going ahead with this plan... it is against fire code in many areas to delay hold on to fabric like this, unless you use approved fabrics.

The Cookery Wine Bar

When we were in the planning procedure of rebuilding The Cookery after the fire last May, we decided a wine bar would be the perfect complement to the restaurant. The Cookery Wine Bar, as well as the restaurant, will unbarred the first week of June.

The Cookery Wine Bar will be the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine on the second level deck while gazing out at the sparkling waters of the bay, nab a late afternoon snack or a bite before dinner from our lighter fare menu, stop by after the theater for sweet, or sip a cup of coffee and indulge in a house made cinnamon roll on the weekends.

The wine bar also includes aspects of sustainability that we incorporated throughout the structure and the menu. The bar itself features a top made of reclaimed elm from Wisconsin barn beams and a linoleum front made from linseed oil. The wood floor is also made of reclaimed Wisconsin barn beams.

We are high to feature local artists in the wine bar as well. Paintings by Margaret Lockwood of Woodwalk Gallery will be on the walls and opera-glasses discs made by Jeremy Popelka of Popelka Trenchard Glass adorn the railings.

The Cookery Wine Bar will be agape daily Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

We hope to see you there!
