Unexpensive Faux Tin Ceiling tiles?

I'm looking to flourish my family room with Copper look ceiling tiles (who can afford real copper anyways?!). Any ideas what other stuff can we try ?

Hi there,
Barely wanted to show you one of our last summer's projects. We had the same target- to make the kitchen ceilings to look as close to essential Copper as possible. We ended up installing PVC faux tin tiles. From my personal experience I can tell you that this is as close to the real Copper as it could be. And also consider that the induction is much simpler and faster than real tin - no preparation work required - just paste some glue and stick them up. So you keep twice - on materials and on labour , but at the end you have fantastic ceilings.
Good Luck!!!

Anaglyptic wallpaper, painted with metallic copper booze it up. HUGE JOB!

Go on a bender the ceiling in a metallic paint. We use Modern Masters Metallic Paint collection. They do have a copper color, which is beautiful. We have actually painted a ceiling in this color and it's Pulchritudinous. The walls were a light green venetian plaster.

Roll the paint on, do not brush it, for it will have brush marks in it.

I wallpapered the ceiling in our bedroom (by myself!) with faux bedaub paintable wallpaper from Home Depot, and now I'm also eager to do a faux tin ceiling in the dining room. I've looked at Anaglypta paintable wallpaper, but I'm tendency more toward the new vinyl wallpapers ("Petite Punched Tin Ceiling Effect Raised Texture Metallic Wallcovering") that procure in various metallic colors and look a lot like the real thing. This would save me a lot of time painting and glazing to get the righteous effect. Paintable wallpaper can look monochrome and flat unless you put some extra work into it. The vinyl ones I'm talking about are on page 2 of the vinculum below. Good luck!

what color walls would look good with terra cotta tiles?

the fireplace is done in terra cotta tiles (including the hearth). there is a copper door over the fireplace hole. copper ceiling tiles, and dark wood panelling that goes about 2 1/2 feet up the wall from the floor. the floor is medium/melancholy hardwood. right now the walls are kind of a putty color (like the color of an old band aid) its real repugnant--the previous owners did it. this color would also have to extend into the dining room because the two rooms are seperated only by an arch. also what color do you think about the window treatment should be? the only furniture i have is a reddish-brown leather love seat and a big rattan wing-back armchair. i have 2 job-style table lamps with amber glass shades. the hanging light fixture in the dining accommodation is similar. whats some ideas for color and maybe furniture?
there's a bay window in the dining room and a monstrous double window in the living room. the top 1/3 of the windows are stained glass (amber, red, and white)
the ceilings are 9'6" weighty if that makes any difference.and there is a crown molding the same color as the lower panelling.
whats a "window scarf"?
hey boodles: wouldnt a mustard yellow fight with the copper? and what shade of orange do you think for the dining room?

I would go with a positively rich warm color. Not any pale beiges or whites, but maybe a tan, rich cappuccino, or golden tan. For the dining area, I would use the exact same color only about 2 shades lighter. Therefore, I believe one of your walls would be the lighter color along with the dining room and the other 3 would be the darker color.
I would go with semi-filmy chocolate curtains or a gold sateen.
For wall hangings, i would be tempted to go with black and white photos or landscapes with Caucasian matting and black frames.
good luck!

How do you remove paint from tin ceiling tiles?

Employees! I need ideas for removing paint from antique tin ceiling tiles. We are renovating a 1920's cottage, and have taken the tiles down to take off the paint.

The first layer seems to be a latex paint and the second layer is lead-based. We want to to the skin them down, prime and repaint them a copper color.

Well, the tucker and least expensive and least time costly way to do it is as follows:

Use oven cleaner. Apply a thin layer of the oven cleaner to the tin tiles and use a lesser putty knife to remove peeling and loosened pieces. Apply a second layer of the oven cleaner using a tormenting bristled brush to get the oven cleaner into the cracks and crevices. Apply as many layers as you need. You'll be adept to just wipe away the residu with a damp rag. However, you should wait about (but no more!) than 2 hours for the oven cleaner to work correctly. Don't wait longer so it doesn't damage your tin tiles.

Protect the surface of the floor with a large pane of plastic, since oven cleaner can harm your floors. It's also important to protect your eyes with protective goggles and your hands with rubber gloves.

Also, though it isn't part of your suspect, when you prime your tin tiles, make sure you use an oil-based primer to avoid having your tiles rust from water-based primer. You can then tint latex paint on top of the oil-based primer without a problem.

This is how I did my tin tiles and those of 3 clients.

Enjoy your new tin tiles... ;-)

I am painting my bedroom ceiling and want to paint over a dark chocolate brown with copper metallic can I?

I like the look of the tin tile look but I am on a budget and the tiles are extravagant. Can I just paint like they do the tiles and get the same color effect?

There are two ways you can do this. You can buy primer (have matched confining to the copper) then paint copper. This will be expensive since it usually takes two coats or more to cover with metallic and they are expensive by them self. Or you could buy a wallpaper that looks like the tiles and show in the copper, hard to hang being upside down. If you are on a budget, I believe neither will work for you. Good luck!
