Even people who can deny the charms of antiques would welcome them if their homes could look like Barb Lemme's.

Lemme is an antiques businessman who has been collecting for a long time and will sell her wares at the Fox Valley Antiques Show, March 13 and 14. But her Glen Ellyn domestic is only 12 years old, and any style decor could fit it comfortably.

The visitor's first "wow" comes right inside the front door. Here's a two-saga gathering room with a see-through stone fireplace complete with raised hearth.

If it weren't for all the sparkling white woodwork, beams and casual beadboard, this open floor plan would definitely be contemporary.

"One of the things I like most about it is the light - the natural well-lighted and the open space and the design details," said Lemme.

And if your idea of an antique collector's home is your skilful-grandmother's Victorian parlor, this will surprise you.

There was a war universal on in the kitchen of my 1921 Dutch Colonial. A louvered 1950s lanai window battled it out with circa-1970 fiberboard cabinets and a metal-framed greenhouse window, while across the flat a giant black mid-'90s fridge stood proudly under contemporary halogen track lights. And my tainted-message kitchen was not even on speaking terms with the rest of the period-style house.

I cooked my heart out in it for a decade, until we marshaled the funds and the nerve to take on a remodel.

So who would have guessed that, when the contractor's dust settled, I would once again have a kitchen combining old, new and somewhere in between.

The difference this time: All the elements get along lawful fine.

I am compelling into an apartment that has beautiful wood floors (medium color), dark "vintage" trim, and an stunning tin ceiling in the kitchen. Any suggestions? I'd love to go bold, but I don't want to over-do it.

I was thinking of a latte color in the pantry (it has white cabinets). What do you all think? Any suggestions?

I will be fine with the rest of the apartment, but am mainly concerned about the kitchenette.
