Mets announce enhancements to Citi Field New York Mets

04/01/10 7:45 PM ET

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Criticized last year because Citi Field had too much Brooklyn Dodgers flavor and just a rush of the home team, the Mets have made alterations to their Citi before it begins its second year.

The Home Run Apple from Shea Colosseum, hidden beyond right-center field last year, has been brought out into the open on Mets Plaza in front of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. And enlarged Topps baseball cards showing the Mets' lineup for the day will be placed atop the escalators and stairs in the Rotunda.

Oversized antiquated baseball cards of Cleon Jones, Dave Kingman and Robin Ventura will be among those featured on Topps displays on the first- and third-base sides of the Territory Level. And of course, the Mets Hall of Fame is to open.

Another touch of Mets history is the naming of the outfield connect on the Field Level. In pregame ceremonies at Opening Day on

Free stuff is popular everywhere, so these MLB freebies should get your attention ESPN

The most stock word in the English language is "free." Regardless of income level, everyone loves getting something for free. In truthfully, when teams hold their giveaway nights this season you may find yourself in line elbowing for a cheap sponsor-logo-covered T-shirt with factual players earning $16 million a year.

Prince Fielder Refrigerator and Magnet Night, Milwaukee, April 6: Every team gives away tight-fisted magnet season schedules. The Brewers take it to the next level by handing out replicas of Fielder's 89-cubic-foot, trudge-in refrigerator to attach them to! Sorry, Freon gas, home delivery and the food in Fielder's fridge not included.

Joe Mauer Cover Night, Minnesota, April 16: After 29 years in the Metrodome, the Twins are moving back outdoors and celebrating by giving the first 20,000 fans a catcher's semblance just like Mauer wears! Well, it's not so much a catcher's mask as a wool pullover ski mask with eye cutouts -- like burglars apparel -- but it comes in team colors and will come in handy on those cold, cold nights in April. And May. And June. And September ...

AC Interview

In the online hard game, there are innovators and there are innovators.  Back in ‘08, when most emcees were busy dropping mixtapes, series, mixtape series and series mixtapes, “I Got Stop In The DJ Booth” up-and-comer AC came up with something entirely new: the first ever mixtape scavenger hunt.  Leaking 20 all-genuine freestyles to hip-hop blogs and sites across the ‘net, the Staten Island rapper challenged listeners everywhere to collect ‘em all, cheering fabulous prizes to those who managed to assemble the full tracklist. Seeing the tremendous fan response to last year’s Attack of the Blogs mixtape/oppose, AC began preparations for a sequel that would be exponentially bigger, better, and more rewarding than its predecessor.  Hosted by DJ Clinton Sparks Decompose of the Blogs Part 2, is coming this Friday, the 29th.  This time around, listeners who visit all 20 participating sites (including DJBooth.net!) and heap up each exclusive freestyle will be eligible to win a whopping $1,000 gift certificate to online streetwear retailer Karmaloop.com, or one of 19 other charming prizes (check out parts one and two of AC’s “Get Familiar with AotB” PSA series for more details). In an elegant interview with our own DJ “Z,” AC steps into the Booth to discuss the difficulty Staten Island rappers lineaments in escaping the Wu-Tang‘s sizable shadow, what major labels don’t understand about the importance of blog-based flier, and his post-AotB2 musical plans.
