Can you give me some tips on starting collecting baseball cards?
My son wants to start collecting cards, and I looking for a scarcely help :)
I believe its best to stick with just one companies cards/brand but which is the best fo a beginner? And does he fitting go get a couple packs or save up fo a box, etc?
thanks in advance for your answers and any other misc. advvise you may have on collecting baseball cards.
I would start with something moderately easy. I would recommend 1989 Upper Deck. The set was popular enough (Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card) that there are a lot out there. The cards are fairly chintzy - most are between .25 and $1.00
The big card is Griffey Jr that you can usually pick up for about $25. If he can't afford it it would make a good birthday allowance!
It's important to stress condition. Even a bent corner on new cards drastically deminishes the value.
The reason I plug something so old is because the new sets all have sets/subset/sub sub sets... before you are done there are thousands of cards!!! There are 810 cards in this set and you will be able to find cards and packs at baseball index card shops, shows, and online.
I will list a bunch of commons cheap at www.oldercards.com (now out of the park sports cards) if you paucity to get him started. Send me an email from the site so I can list them at the special "first timer" price!

I'm becoming a fan of collecting baseball cards after seeing my uncles whole gathering of them.
So i've decided to start collecting them myself.
So i need/want to know how i can/should start.
From what packs to buy or to who to look out for. What cards are special and what types of cards i should keep.

Hey sweetie! I at long last found you!
If you really want to collect baseball cards then you can ask my cousin Chi. Remember him? He has lots of baseball cards and maybe he can give you some tips.

How to start collecting baseball cards and the most popular name brand of cards to collect.?
I as far as one is concerned would start with an older set if you have a few bucks. They have a lot fewer cards in the set. For example the 1969 Topps set has only 664 cards compared to the thousands of cards in the 2007 Topps set.
You can buy cards from .30 or .40 for the commons to a combine hundred for the stars. Depending on the quality that you want you can complete the whole set for under $700. When you are done you have something worth keeping.
Even if you go back as far as 1951 Topps red backs... the cards are more costly but there are only like 155 cards.
New baseball cards are like lottery scratch tickets. The only reason to buy a pack for $5 or $10.00 is the desire of pulling the randomally several hundred or thousand dollar card.
I want to sell nearly ten years worth of collecting baseball cards. What should the asking price be?
I am striking out of state in less than one month and I hoped to let them go at a garage sale this weekend. Would it be best to just ask "one price take all"?
