An old-time community: Jack V. Greer has moved in some historic buildings and ... Press-Register al.com (blog)

At Smiling Cove in Belle Fontaine, Jack V. Greer has constructed a community of sorts, complete with a chapel, a faction, a mom-and-pop grocery, a man-made lake, a covered draw bridge and a golf course.

Some of the structures are certified noteworthy buildings that feature items that match the era in which they were built. And some are new, constructed as replicas of buildings from an earlier time.

Most propose a glimpse of a time when people moved a little slower and community life revolved around the church, the form and the general store.

Greer moved the chapel in first to Sunny Cove in 2001.

“That came from the bayou, from Coden,” he said.

The chapel, which overlooks “Jack’s Lake,” which Greer built 50 years ago, is pastoral in its simplicity. A few authentic pews line the center aisles. Red-backed hymnals rest in the racks on the backs of the pews and a orison rail with padded cushions faces the podium.
