Taxidermist re-creates anglers' prize catches; show moves to Sacramento's Red Lion Sacramento Bee
How can you seize that trophy fish, release it and have it, too? It's entirely possible if you have Ed Moore, who owns and operates the Wildlife Workshop in Fort Bragg, business his magic for you.
Moore, whose reproductions of aquatic life have won national acclaim, will be among the artists showing off their work this weekend at the California Friendship of Taxidermists annual Art Show at the Red Lion Hotel in Sacramento.
The show will bring together some of the nation's top taxidermists to display their work and see how it stacks up against others' in depicting fish and wildlife.
Several categories will be on show: upland birds and waterfowl; animals ranging from small to large; fish and reptiles. Wood carvings and reproductions, such as Moore's drudgery, will be presented in the fish and reptile categories.
The show has moved to Sacramento from Redding, where it had been held for the past 15 years, said confederation president Mark Dias of Hollister, who has been doing taxidermy for 17 years.
This time of year puts a spring in my step Seacoastonline.com
I adulation this time of the year, as the sun sets later in the day, robins are returning to the Seacoast, we're within a week of turning our clocks at the, the ice is beginning to leave the lakes, the annual Seacoast Basketball Tournament is looking for participants, Maine plain-water fishing season is only days away, New Hampshire waters are opening up so fishing is available now, warmer daytime temperatures are the direction, and buds will begin to show on the trees very soon. The earth is being reborn.
From now on we will have more sun, some rain, green grass (to mow), seeds to informer, grills to clean, boats to tune up, lures to buy, suntan lotion to smear on our bodies (I can hardly break), repairs to make on the house, monthly celebrations in the city and so much more in this beautiful area we call home. It is the most exciting heretofore of the year (behind Christmas Day).
We have the best of both worlds in this area as salt-water fishing is minutes away and trolling, soak-skiing or swimming on a lake is less than an hour away. If you're a fisherman then you know that fishing is just the most relaxing way to devote time with someone you care about and at other times is a way to just get away by yourself. Catching a fish is the icing on the cake.
One constituent about painting these reproductions is that you have to make the fish look dead before you can make it look alive.
