Is it "art is an imitation of life" or "life is an imitation of art"?
I positive that both of them are valid and I know what they mean and etc etc...but which is the original quote?
Neither. At most they are "interpretations", one of the other, in both instances.

Plato and Aristole argued that art is imitation. Citing relevant examples, to what extent do you agree?
Since art contains no "existence" nor ever "real" it must be an just a representation of something--thus imitation.
what did Emerson mean when he said, in our fine art, not imitation, but creation is the aim?
Are art imitations still considered art?
I'm doing a giving based on this statement: “Originality is essential in the Arts, otherwise it is mere reproduction.”
Do you believe that reproductions are still art, even if they are imitations of the card?
After all, the intentions of the artist and the copyist are different.
P.S. Art is defined as the product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that affects coherence or emotions, conveying the artist's perception of the real world.
Imitation is the sincerest cultivate of sloth. Reproductions are at least once removed from art. They are like souvenirs - they may remind you of Paris, but, youre NOT in Paris. However there is a new aspect to consider and that is "quotation" or "emulation." Can one use a passage, or "rate" from DaVinci's "Madonna of the Rocks" in an otherwise wholly original composition to, say, obtain a statement about the progression of art history and society since the original work was created? Absolutely. And it would necessarily be considered foot original, if not good (a completely different issue). On the other hand simply restating the original artist's profession is no different than copying a book...it doesn't make you a writer or the result an original.
Also, the very brief and simplistic explication of art is short by several thousand words. The nature of art does not support the use of the phrase "...of the real period."
