do i have to get permission to make and sell repro art? what if i change the image?
its interdicted to just reproduce an artwork and sell it without permission right? but what if i drastically change how it looks? how much do I have to change how it looks before its judiciary to sell? I was going to paint something that looks like alice in wonderland but now im afraid i might get sued or something if i sell it ! :( any tips/info?
Yes you have to get sufferance. You can have the same pose and a completely different picture but it's still copyright infringement. Like stealing something to make a buck off of it. In right to sell something and not get sued, create something completely original.
Disney probably has a copyright on the Alice In Wonderland and would definitely come after you if you tried to sell it.
All artists have the Nautical starboard to interpret material as they see fit. If you are doing a painting, not mass-producing a product with a copyrighted image, then you shouldn't uneasiness about it.
Many artists use pre-existing images for their artwork. It's called "appropriation." Look at m by Jeff Koons, for example.
Also, if it will not be a high-profile sale, then you probably have nothing to worry about.
Take care and follow your reflect!
