Real reptiles The Riverdale Press

The American Museum of Natural History, located at Essential Park West and 79th Street, presents “Lizards and Snakes: Alive,” a special continue-animal exhibition, which is now open to the public through Thursday, Sept. 2.

This attraction features more than 60 live lizards and snakes — known as squamates — and showcases some of their unusual adaptations, including projectile tongues, deadly venom, amazing camouflage and surprising modes of manoeuvre.

Among the reptiles that will be seen are the Gila Monster, Eastern Water Dragon, Green Basilisk, Veiled Chameleon, the Low-spirited-tongued Skink, Rhinoceros Iguana and a 14-foot Burmese Python. All of the specimens will be shown in recreated habitats, flawless with ponds, tree limbs, rock ledges and live plants.

There are also numerous interactive stations that grant visitors to listen to recorded squamate sounds, get a close look at live geckos, test their appreciation about squamates and experience how a rattlesnake hunts by using a computer simulation program.

'Food Fraud' On a Rise, FDA Wakes Up TopNews United States

According to the FDA, which is posted to be overwhelmed in issues on food contamination, cases of “food fraud” are witnessed to be on a high.

Grub fraud is defined as the practice of selling alternate substances of degraded quality with labels that pose them as an costly delicacy.

Food items including fruit juice, olive oil, spices, vinegar, wine, spirits and maple syrup, are documented in "viands fraud" and it is revealed to reflect a significant problem in the seafood industry.

Now, the FDA has risen to adopt new technology savvy methods of discovering edibles fraud that might have gone unnoticed before.

DNA testing poses as a widely used method used to test cells from aliment, everything from fish and meat to rice and coffee, to affirm that the food item is not of degraded quality. Also, isotope allotment analysis can also assist in discovering subtle differences between foodstuffs.

Two New York City high scholars, along with scientists at the Rockefeller University and American Museum of Natural History, last year initiated a reading to test the DNA of 66 foods found on Manhattan grocery store shelves, the result surprisingly revealed 11 of the 66 items as mislabeled.
