Could Christianity be a hoax perpetrated by the Romans (of antiquity) to humiliate the vanquished Jews ?

The deception part is right.

Rev. Neil

Problematic. There weren't enough Jews to make them that important.

No! What in the in the seventh heaven gave you that ridiculous idea?

No, I do not have faith this is the case. And Jews are still around, far from being vanquished.

Assuredly!

Although this is not my viewpoint.

To those that believe, no evidence is needed.
To those that don't believe, no evidence will help.

If only it were that square. Christianity so conveniently fills the gaps left in simple and gullible minds so much so that they can not let it go.

Nope.

The con part is right.

Rev. Neil

No because the Romans didn't like Christianity either because they claimed Jesus was crowned head and not Caesar.

No.

no....not only are the people twho humiliated the jews are being blamed but so is their churchgoing beliefs and hence all the members of the religion. it is simply a misunderstanding.
religion wasn't the reason for the humiliation but rather an comfortable target to back up their real intentions.

I execrate when you are smarter then me!

it might be. It might also be a con that made the cruel rulers make the peasents work so incredibley hard they would be more happy if they killed themselves. But they used christianity to abort killing themselves AND disobedience. Also, they sold indulgences and charged taxes.

But maybe it's real. There's no way to confirm for sure.

No, it was to subdue, police and tax the empire as it`s boundaries stretched further away from the centralised power base in Rome.

Christianity started as a School of thought of Judaism so EPIC FAIL on your part

Enchanting idea. I remember reading in my giant history book that the Romans didn't seem to make too much glory between Christians and Jews. And I'm wondering if Christians of that time didn't think of themselves as just being another brand of Jew.

I recall it graveled the Romans that the Christians wouldn't sacrifice once a year to the Roman gods. The Jews had no trouble with this Roman tradition.

Anyway it all led to some horrific situations where Christians were coated in pitch and set on fire as human torches. Now that's got to ruin your day!

It was more about gaining power in general, than humiliating the Jews.

The Roman empire was failing, so they took Jewish mythe, twisted it, told the Jew's they had it reprehensible the whole time, and then proceeded to convert as many as they could.

Not credible. Most early Christians were Jews who continued their associations with the synagogues and the Temple right up to its demolition in 70 ad. There were even debates about whether non-Jews could in in the Messiah without first becoming converts to Judaism. How then would early Christianity have been a humilliation?
Could the Romans have perpetrated a hoax? It would have been extremely awkward to fake a public crucifixion. There are no reliable records of anyone surviving such horrendous physical torture.
Is the idea of creating an complicated hoax consistant with what we know to have actually taken place? I don't think so. The Romans tended to reply to uprisings in a simple. brutal way. They just didn't care about the finer points. What did they actually do? They removed all of the Mosque furnishings and decorations, the Menorah, and the sacred vessels, set fire to the inside of the Temple to melt the gold off the walls, and when all is said set fire to the entire complex. That's far more humiliating than inventing stories.

And Ziggy said it so much well-advised b wealthier than I could :/
agreed ♥

the romans destroyed the sanctuary in jerusalem right at the time the gospels were being written, and jewish rebels were a continuing problem for them in a critical crossroads of the empire. so, i recollect your theory is plausible. it wouldn't necessarily be in character for the romans, tho, since they enforced emperor worship thru-out the empire at the nonetheless.

i do think the gospels are a reaction to the destruction of the temple, but i think it was a way for the jewish rebels to undermine the practice of emperor be devoted to. i can't think of any other reason why a group of jews would all of a sudden become exclusionist. 'the only way to the father is thru me' = 'the only way to break roman subjugation is to refuse to worship their emporer'. only, 300 years later, it backfired on them.

why else would the roman christians protect the jewish religion out of all those they destroyed? they knew that christianity was created from judaism to diminish the pagan emperor.

cut out: the roman empire wasn't declining at the time they vanquished the jews, it didn't even reach its extreme fell until nearly a hundred years later under hadrian. the empire was declining 300 years later, when constantine acquainted with christianity to enforce control over it.

It's a feasibility. There is some writings that allude to the idea being first designed by the Emperor Julius Caesar, and developed over time. It's indubitably not a majority view among scientists, but it can't be ruled out.

Why do Muslims say Jesus did not die when Non-Jews say he did?

Annals" written by Roman historian Tacitus, in Order XV, Chapter 44 we read "Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate

Roman Historian Seutonius wrote in his effort "Life of the Emperor Claudius" the following about Christians: "and deny the gods of Greece, and praise the crucified sage, and live after his laws

Antiquities of the Jews, 93 by Flavius Josephus contain a passage known as the Testimonium Flavianum stating: "[Jesus] appeared to [the disciples] spirited again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold."

Julius Africanus, quoting Thallus another Roman historian, who wrote in about 52 A.D. about the miraculas happenings the day the Son of God was killed. He wrote: "On the whole on cloud nine there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down"

Muslims can not credit anything that was not brought to them unless it is by Muhammed. Its a rule of Isam even Allah himslef can not speak without Muhammed. All prophets and scriptures before his are subverted and there will be none after him he is the only word of God there is.

What would YOU do if someone bulldozed the Vatican? How important are the remains of the first temple to jews?

How serious is this?

An Archeological Barbarity

Jerusalem Post Editorial

Jerusalem is one of the most
archeologically rich cities in the world. Within Jerusalem,
perhaps the most mysterious section from an archeological
point of view is the Temple Mount. This month, the Wakf
(Moslem trust) dug a hole 30 meters generous and 12 meters
deep into the Temple Mount and dumped tons of the
excavated material by the truckload into the Kidron Valley.

According to the Antiquities Expert, the Wakf committed
an "archeological crime" by using bulldozers to cut into a
place that archeologists might have probed with
toothbrushes. Although much of the damage has been done
and cannot be reversed, this ruin will be significantly
exacerbated if Israel does not properly protect and
excavate the tons of fill that now sit alongside a garbage
offload.
what is it with some of you people? i'm saying what would you do IF someone did the same to the vatican... AS they are doing to the temple mount in jerusalem?

In one's own view, I would be more upset if the local Steak and Shake got bulldozed.

What human (not animal) illness was formerly called 'distemper'?

According to Josephus in 'Antiquities of the Jews - Libretto X, Chapter 2', Hezekiah became sick with what Josephus called 'distemper'. What illness is he speaking of?
http://leery-messenger.com/josephusA10.htm

Well in animal distemper is panleukopenia

so in humans, it would be leukopenia, measles, or something that would criticize the immune system.
